Dr. Joseph A. Bernstein is a native of Maryland, raised in the town of Bel Air in Harford County and has deep roots in the local community. He received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA in 1997. He received his degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies in 2002. Following a year long clinical rotation at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, he completed an internship in companion animal medicine and surgery at Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in West Lafayette, Indiana. He then returned to LSU for a three year residency in dermatology under the mentorship of Drs. Carol Foil and Sandra Merchant, where he was responsible for clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students. With an interest in cutaneous oncology, he instituted the first veterinary program for Mohs micrographic surgery for the removal of locally invasive skin cancers. His other research lay in the field of non-human primate dermatology. A published author in several journals, he became a board certified diplomate of the American College of Dermatology (ACVD) in 2006 and returned to establish his own private practice near his home in Baltimore County, Maryland. Dr Bernstein is also a national dermatology consultant for Antech Diagnostic Laboratory. In addition to small animal and equine cases, Dr. Bernstein acts as a consultant for zoos and research centers for the benefit of exotic animals and nonhuman primates.
Dr. Deirdre Vaughan, MS, DVM, DACVD
Dr. Deirdre Vaughan is originally from Alabama, where she grew up around her grandparents farm, developed her life-long interest in animals, and her passion for Auburn football. She attended Auburn University in Auburn, AL and received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 1995. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she attended graduate school at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX and received her Master of Science degree in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology. Following graduate school, Dr. Vaughan returned to Alabama for veterinary school and received her DVM from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Upon graduation, Dr. Vaughan completed a year-long internship in Small Animal Surgery and Medicine at Southeast Veterinary Specialists in Metairie, LA. Already planning on pursuing her interest in dermatology, Dr. Vaughan remained at the same location and completed a one year dermatology internship. In 2006, she began her 2-year residency in dermatology at Southeast Veterinary Specialists and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. In 2008, she successfully completed her residency and joined the staff of Long Green Animal Dermatology. Dr. Vaughan is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Vaughan's special interests include staphylococcal pyoderma, pharmacology, autoimmune, and infectious/parasitic diseases. She also enjoys large animal and pocket-pet dermatology and hopes to see a variety of species in Maryland.
Dr. Vaughan is an avid Auburn Tiger fan who wears orange in support of her team on game days, travels to as many football games as work will allow, and greets fellow Tigers with an enthusiastic "War Eagle!" Dr. Vaughan loves Shetland Sheepdogs-she has two shelties-Chaucer and Maggie-and also has a Hurricane Katrina rescue cat named Magazine.
Stephanie Dowell
A resident of Bel Air, MD, Stephanie graduated from Towson State University in Towson, Maryland in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Zoology. She has worked in the field of Veterinary Medicine for almost 20 years, including work in Animal Behavior at Towson State as well as being a Veterinary Assistant for over 13 years at a Harford County veterinary office. Although most of her experience is with small animal practice, she also has experience with reptiles, amphibians, and other exotics.
Joanne Jeschonnek
Joanne has worked in the veterinary field for 15 years. Her experience prior to working as a dermatology technician was primarily in the areas of Emergency/Critical care and surgery.
Angela Andrzejewski
Angela graduated from the Veterinary Technician Program in 2007, and is currently an RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician). She has been working in the veterinary field for 7 years. Prior to working in dermatology she worked in veterinary clinics in Harford County. She has experience working with large animals, but her primary focus is small animal medicine.
